New Beginnings - A Great Day

Aug 16th, 2007 by Esther | 6

Today is a GREAT day. My grandmother just left her oncologist’s office and it appears the oral chemo is working - her bloodwork is back and it shows improvement and she’s regained 3 of the 15 pounds she lost prior to treatment. I’m so very thankful to all of you for your prayers and good wishes - it’s meant the world to me and my family. She goes back in six weeks for more bloodwork and a scan of the liver to see if tumor has decreased in size. But as the first step this has been more than we expected and we’re all so very thankful.

My dad has an appointment with the oncologist/surgeon at The University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center at the end of September at which point they will schedule his surgery and hopefully we can move forward with his health also. The recent news of Merv Griffin’s death to prostate cancer was very sobering for all of us and has affecting him even more - he tries not to let us see the fear - but it’s palpable and we’re all anxious to get this all past him. Hopefully todays’ good news will help him see the optimistic possibilities.

I’ve been knitting away today on a baby blanket for my aunt’s granddaughter that will be born in December.

Pattern: Karabella: Breeze Lace Baby Blanket
Yarn: 14 skeins of Lionbrand Cashmere Blend in Light Pink (It’s HEAVENLY - so soft and just a dream to work with).
Progress so far (I’ve got about 6 of the 21 pattern repeats done, then I have to do a crochet edging but it’s pretty easy and the patten is easily memorized so knitting in front of tv is a breeze):

I couldn’t spread it out enough to truly be able to show you stitch definition because just too many stitches to put on holders now - lol. But you can get the picture.

Here is a picture of the pattern (what it supposed to look like when done with crochet edge):

It’s a fun knit. I’m looking forward to the crochet edge.

Again, thanks to all for your prayers and well wishes - I truly appreciate it.

Esther, is this baby blanket going to be washable? Just wondering. It’s going to be beautiful though. I really like the pattern. Someday I’m going to come to your house and you can teach me to crochet. I really wanted that “Crochet loves knitting” book. It had the cutest tops in it. And I so want one of those Granny Squares Afghans that are crocheted too.

Esther, I am sooooooooooooo SO HAPPY about the news about Titi. That’s so wonderful. I cried when I read this post. I wish I were there to celebrate this small victory with you girl. Give Titi a hug from me and tell her I’m praying for her.
